Fresno State provides identity management services to ensure a seamless login capability for various Fresno State services (E-mail, My Fresno State, Canvas). This system relies on a user ID, sometimes referred to a username (e.g. jsmith123), and also holds some information how the user's personal name is displayed (e.g., John H. Smith). Faculty and staff can request a user ID and/or display name changes using this service.
Please note:
- If you would like to request a change to your full legal name of record at Fresno State, you must complete an Employee Action Request form with Human Resources first.
- If you are requesting a user ID change, you will lose access to Canvas while the change processes. This process can take 24 to 48 hours.
- There is a separate service for Students to update their name information.
Any user ID change will offline your account for 24 hours while the name change is completed. When submitting a user ID change request, please include three options for the new user ID, as potential usernames may already be in use.
